DYNAMIC WORKSPACES FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH

Are you ready for a dynamic workspace?

And we're not just talking about the energy levels from your charismatic workmates! We’re talking about movement - or the lack of it, while you are at work.

Here at Fagan Office Supplies, we're embracing the emerging trend for health and wellness at the workplace. Too many of us spend too many hours of our day sitting at a desk, often in the same position, for extended periods of time. A recent study showed that 60% of our total sitting time takes place whilst we are at work! A sedentary lifestyle is linked with many health conditions, including obesity, cardiovascular issues, circulatory problems, cancer and stress! It's no coincidence that companies with the best health and well-being strategies are attracting the best employees and retaining them. Many multinationals spend a large amount of money on employee wellbeing programmes. They see this as money well spent - because a healthy environment at work is seen as an employee benefit, and in our current job seekers market here in Ireland, any tactic that employers can use to attract and retain the best staff is a good investment on their part.

But, it's not all up to the employer! Even self-employed people, who often put in the longest work hours of any working sector - are also seeking ways to maintain their health despite a demanding work week.

CHAINED TO YOUR DESK?

So, what can we do when we often find ourselves literally chained to our desk for hours on end?

We can stand up for healthier work conditions - and find ways to build more movement in our working day. Maybe that means taking the stairs instead of the lift, or parking the car further from the building to increase the steps you take each day. But, even the time spent at your desk in front of your computer can be an opportunity to move more. Moving to a standing position increases your blood circulation, helps your concentration, drives up your metabolic rate, and boosts your energy - all of which will help to regulate blood pressure and sugar levels and importantly stress. Standing Up is good for you!

Long periods of standing are not the total solution, as this can create it’s own problems - especially if you suffer from back pain or aching feet. The key is to get the balance right, by alternating between periods of sitting and standing. Ideally, you will find a way to do this without interfering with your productivity, and while still continuing with your usual workday schedule.

GET UP, STAND UP

Sit-Stand workstations are a great way to accomplish reduce sedentary time without impacting productivity. You get the flexibility to add periodic movement to your working day, rather than being restricted to the confines of your desk. The best Sit-Stand Workstations are easy to change from sitting to standing so that you can conveniently experience a healthy cycle of motion without much effort or disruption.
